1000’s of “counterfeit Apple AirPod earbuds” seized coming into the US by customs officers look like real wi-fi earphones made by OnePlus.

“That is not an Apple,” Customs and Border Safety (CBP) tweeted.

And an accompanying press launch lauded “the vigilance and dedication to mission success” of the officers.

However the {photograph} tweeted by CBP clearly exhibits OnePlus-branded earphones. And OnePlus merely replied on Twitter: “Hey, give these again.”

‘Varied risks’

Officers at John F Kennedy International Airport had seized 2,000 “counterfeit Apple AirPod earbuds from Hong Kong destined for Nevada”, CBP stated.

“CBP officers are defending the American public from numerous risks every day,” the New York discipline operations director added.

“If the merchandise had been real”, the press release stated, the earphones could be price $398,000 (£310,000) or $199 a pair.

However OnePlus’s earphones promote for lower than half that quantity.
